Description of Ingredients
Antimicrobial
Na Bentonite Clay is highly absorbent, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and is
used for detoxification. This absorption helps diminish plaque over time (not to be used as a substitute for dental cleaning when tooth decay condition has advanced).
Diatomaceous Earth is used for intentional parasites such as a vermifuge, aids in digestion, and helps control the invasion of heartworm by decreasing their life span.
Coral Calcium is a source of calcium beneficial for both bone and skin health.
Na Cl (sodium chloride) is a natural ingredient we use for it’s abrasive properties to break down tooth tartar.
Oil of oregano is a natural antimicrobial that helps to improve the health of your dog’s gums.
Vegetable glycerin is a palatable antimicrobial and is a viscosity stabilizer used instead of water.
Sodium Bicarb trace amount. (0.001 per jar)
Plaque Control
Papain is a papaya enzyme used for breaking down protein that leads to plaque formation. (This protein often comes from food left in the dogs mouth after eating.)
Magnesium taurate is a mineral supplement derived from seaweed. It contains the amino acid taurine which is responsible for maintaining strong heart health. While most taurine products are derived from meat products our toothpaste is completely animal free.
Brewer’s Yeast is a palatable yeast rich in vitamin B 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, and 9. It promotes healthy skin and is used to both reduce anxiety and manage fleas.
Brushing
Puppies should begin getting their teeth brushed, 2 to 3 times a week so they become accustomed to having their mouth touched.
Adults should continue having their teeth brushed 3 to 5 times a week for at least 1 minute a day, to maintain proper teeth health.
Dogs suffering from Advanced Gingivitis should begin a strict regimen consisting of:
-First 2 weeks (brushing 2x a day).
-Next 4 weeks(brushing 1x a day).
If brushed in this regime the dog’s gums will greatly improve. Once healthy enough, you may begin brushing your dog’s teeth 3 to 5 times a week (1x a day) to prevent further professional dental cleaning or dental extractions. However, if at this point if your dog’s teeth are too far gone, even with gum improvement, it may be time to have dental extractions.
Jan Beckwith –
This toothpaste was recommended by our vet for our two cats who came to us with severe gingivitis and other health issues. After using it for 6 months, following the directions for ramping up and maintenance, we found that the gingivitis had reduced quite a bit, only evident now in the back molars. The best news came when they had their first dental. We were told they had only mild and soft tartar buildup and it was clear the brushing had helped considerably. This is enough for us to keep on this path!
